nGia   CASLA

CASLA addresses three pressing needs. First, it implements a learning model that has previously been available only in the physical classroom. Second, it offers a corporation's geographically scattered employee base the opportunity to participate in a class together, without restricting them to a single time of day. Third, it delivers this training at the desktop thus maintaining employee productivity and saving travel costs.

CASLA represents the first Web-based learning application that enables class participants to learn from each other, not just from a course instructor. At its core lies an asynchronous "team discussion" module that embeds group discussions in the learning process. This makes the application ideally suited for topics that would normally require the class to break down into smaller group discussions, and then share their results with the larger group. Class members learn from each other in smaller groups, and then reconvene in the larger class setting to learn from the activities of the other groups. Another advantage arising from the use of an asynchronous model is that employees of corporations located worldwide can participate without having to be in a fixed place at a fixed time. Synchronous methods of teaching, like chat sessions and real classrooms, require class attendees to participate at the same time and thus have limited usefulness for worldwide usage.

The core application is designed so that the content for different courses can be dropped in easily. Other unique features in the application include a fully featured course facilitator module, enabling a single individual to monitor several courses at the same time. There are also skill assessment and tracking tools, and an engaging interface that makes the learning process enjoyable.
